Power in Economics, Politics, and Government

The three basic elements to every stable country has one thing in common, power. Power of the people, power of vote or power of the dollar. Power is essential to all these things but like anything else, if the balance is off trouble is soon behind it.
In economics the power needs to be in the value of the currency and how it relates to other economies. If the dollar is too weak, prices are high for us and every American, rich or poor, pay the price. If the dollar is strong we buy from other countries helping there economy grow strength.
In politics, power is a dangerous but necessary evil. For example if there were no majority in the house do you think that we would ever be able to pass any legislature? With politicians being so stubborn with voting for their own party, if there wasn't a majority things would never progress. Kind of what is happening now with the majority shifting after the midterm elections.
Government needs power to survive. It must to powerful enough to enforce its laws but when it gains to much power over it's people we see a situation like Egypt. I believe this balance of power is the most important. Countries raise and fall when I Government's power is off balance with it's people. Unfortunately, finding the perfect balance of what the government controls and what the people do is not that easy. It is constantly changing and with it, the government is changing. Look at where America is now compared to what it was 200 years ago. The people have changed so the government has been trying to keep up. But how much power is too much in today's America?

  1. Mike Dionisio Peer Review #1

I percieve this blog statement as being that Power in the Government is absolutely needed. It's a matter of what exactly is too much power carried by a government. And how is government suppose to keep up with the generations passing in the coutries best interests. Also the power of the dollar seems to be a subject of conversation stating that if currency is low, prices are too high.
I really enjoyed reading this blog. I think it hits key topics on the subject of Power and Government. Such as using referrences from the Egypt issues going on. Also, relating what's going on in america and relating it to how america has changed ove rthe lst 200 years.
I think the article could have used a bit more reference on the subject of the Egyptian crisis. I think it was a great comparrison but needed to have further detail on the subject. I also think the comparison of 200 years ago and how the government needs to keep up could have had a little more dialogue.
Overall I believe this blog created an interest in the topic at hand. It brought interest while reading that wanted me to read more about it. I think she did a great job with references, but may have been able to go more in depth on her references. But I really enjoyed reading this blog. Great Job!

  2. Critical Review #1
Summarize how you perceive the vision and mission of the blog you are reviewing.
I think that the mission of this blog is to follow the class content regarding the weekly critical questions and her opinion on the subject matter in which we are reviewing in class.

What do you view the strengths of the blog to be? What are the inspirational, entertaining, creative and innovative elements that you find compelling?
I think that one strengths this blog has is that it has a catchy name, which is why I chose this blog off of the url list to review. I think that is important because that is what draws people to read it in the first place. I also like that the blog has a cartoon regarding politics as well as pole that blog viewers can participate in regarding what political party they belong to. I found her January 30 th blog posting to be somewhat inspirational, even though she did have a critical review on the state of the union address, which I think is good, she also made the blog somewhat hopeful and inspiring at the end of the blog entry.
I also like that she asked us, our classmates to please let her know when we disagree with her or think she is wrong, this was in her January 20th posting. I find this to be very refreshing because many people seem to be offended by criticism, even constructive criticism, or simple/friendly debates.

What area could be improved in the blog?
I think that this blog could be improved by following the guidelines in the syllabus better. The content in the blog was good, and kept my attention well, however there were no outside references (not our text), or any references at all in the blog entries. I also think that the blog entries lacked visual content. Even though the main blog page did have a visual, a cartoon, I think that the individual blog entries could have contained a visual as well. I also think the blog postings needed to be reviewed before posted as there are some small errors in the writing, I believe this is just to trying to type while trying to keep up with thought, which I myself am also guilty of.

    Overall summary of my evaluation.
Overall I liked this bog, and I chose this blogs due to the name of it, I thought the name of this blog was very catchy and a good attention catcher. This blog, even though lacking some of the things outlined in the guidelines of the class syllabus, had an entry for each week of class and has a response to each of the critical questions. Many of the blogs on the url list did not have a blog posting for each week of class, and many not since week one. Overall I liked this blog and plan to revisit it throughout the semester.
